The Creative AI Lab · Unveiled
We're not learning AI.
We're teaching it taste.
The world won't stop moving — so we built a base camp. A place for all of Design Studios to keep pushing the ceiling of what creative work can be, together. Three layers, three roles, every one of them essential. Here's what it is, and where you fit.
What it is
When anyone can generate, craft is the edge.
AI handed everyone the same starting line — content is easy now, and it's everywhere. Which makes the rarest thing in the room the thing Design Studios has always had: judgement, craft, the eye for what's actually good. The Lab is how we build that at scale — turning it into tools, workflows and agents that lift the whole studio, not one project at a time.
The three layers
Three roles. One community.
One expedition, three roles — and every one of them carries the climb. There's a clear line between them, and a place for all of us. You don't have to want to be a builder; all of it is what makes this work.
All of DS
Where the work meets the world.
Every designer, producer and director. You put these tools into the work that actually ships — and when anyone can generate, your craft and judgement are what set DS apart. This is the point of everything we build.
The Practice · open to everyone
You bring it in, and carry it across.
The early adopters in the thick of it — testing the tools on real client work, learning fast, feeding it back, then coaching and embedding it across DS. You don't have to be technical to belong here; this is where new ways of working become real.
The Builders · a calling, not a rank
They build the tools the studio runs on.
A hand-picked, AI-native crew in hacker mode — coding, vibe-coding, pushing the ceiling and landing real products that work at scale. Not everyone wants to live here, and that's the point: it's a craft you earn, not a status you're handed.
Builders push the ceiling. The Practice carries it to the client. All of DS makes the work the world sees. Together, that's how we raise it.
AI raised the floor.
We raise the ceiling.

The craft
Craft at scale — in breadth and in depth.
It takes two kinds of people, and the Lab needs both equally.
Breadth
Hybrids, thinkers & storytellers
A mixed crew of talented creatives across fields who design and build — fluent in a brief and in how an AI agent is wired, turning a real problem into something that works. They spread new capability wide.
Depth
The craft experts
The subject-matter masters, deep in their craft, who set the bar. They know we need workflows that scale — and they hold the line that scale never costs us quality.
Breadth spreads it. Depth protects it. Together — that's craft at scale.
Where you fit
The Lab is base camp. The Studio gives you the tools to climb.
Base camp is where we think, experiment and build together. The Studio is where you pick up the tools, skills and workflows that take you higher — and put them to work.
Fluency Ladder
Where the ladders align — and where they don't.
BCG just launched its firm-wide AI Fluency Ladder — four levels. DS already runs seven. The four BCG levels map to roughly DS L1–L5; our top two — Pioneer and Orchestrator — occupy territory BCG doesn't name, measure, or certify.
Orchestrator
Organisational AI policy. Studio-wide decisions about adoption, governance and limits. The framework others move through — you helped build it.
Pioneer
Frontier practice. Testing unreleased tools. External reference material. Teaching and shaping the field's standards.
AI Builder
Production-grade AI systems in a client or BCG environment. Requires L1–L4 plus a coding assessment.
Architect
System-level thinking before picking any tool. Modular, tool-swappable design. Agents run without you.
AI Multiplier
Self-contained AI systems within engagement scope — not integrated into BCG or client tech stacks.
Builder
Workflow-first, then tool selection. Build things others operate. Tool-agnostic: Claude vs ChatGPT, Kling vs Higgsfield.
AI Automator
Design AI workflows and automations for personal or team productivity.
Composer
Design how you work with AI before starting. Repeatable personal systems. First Claude skills — slash commands, saved approaches.
AI Practitioner
Agents and chatbots in cohort — specific workflows for measurable impact.
Experimenter
Iterate with purpose. Reliable approaches across multiple task types. Building instincts, even if you can't always explain why they work.
AI Explorer
Foundational knowledge and basic use cases — expected of all BCGers.
Explorer
Daily use, accepting outputs. One or two tools, one or two task types. Finding the edges of usefulness.
DS L6 and L7 — Pioneer and Orchestrator — live in territory BCG doesn't name, measure or certify.
